Overview

Where does a quarter sock sit on the leg?

A quarter sock clears the ankle bone by an inch or two, sitting between ankle and crew heights, which most sport programmes prefer.

A quarter sock has one job: clear the collar and stay there

The quarter cut exists to shield the back of the heel from the shoe collar. To do that it has to sit a few inches above the ankle bone, high enough to clear the collar but not so high that it drifts into crew territory, and it has to hold that height while the foot is moving. That is a narrow band to hit, and it is where most quarter socks fail: knit the leg a little short or set the cuff a little loose and the sock works its way down into the shoe mid-run, the collar grinds against a bare heel, and the cut loses its only reason to exist. As a private-label and OEM manufacturer, Sihman Inc. locks that height and the cuff tension on your approved sample, then reproduces it pair for pair, so “quarter” means the same measurement across every size and every reorder.

The quarter height band, locked to your sample

  • Low-quarter: a touch above the ankle bone for low court shoes and trainers, higher than an ankle sock without rising to a full quarter
  • True quarter: roughly 10 to 13 cm up the leg, the standard sport height that clears the collar on most running and court shoes
  • Cuff tension: a ribbed welt set to hold the height through high-output activity without digging in or sliding down

We confirm the exact measurement on your sample before bulk, so the height stays put between sizes and between repeat runs.

Cushioned for sport, branded throughout

Quarter is a sport-led height, so the build counts as much as the cut. We map impact padding under the heel and forefoot, open mesh venting over the instep, and a knit-in arch band for hold, then knit your logo, stripes, and brand colors straight into the sock as durable color rather than print. Moisture-wicking polyester and nylon suit performance lines, while combed cotton covers everyday and multipack ranges. The make holds steady from a first 2,000-pair run through the 5,000-pair-plus volumes a performance multipack depends on.

One source for the height, the cushioning, and the make

Because Sihman Inc. is a US company that imports as the importer of record, your finished quarter socks clear customs on our paperwork rather than yours and arrive on one duty-paid landed price, so the duty line is already inside the number on your cost sheet. You supply the artwork and the performance brief; we own the height, the cushioning map, and the batch-to-batch quality control, from the first sample through every in-season reorder.

Key features

Built to your spec

01

Above-the-ankle height

The quarter cut sits a few inches above the ankle, between an ankle sock and a mid-calf crew. It clears low shoe lines while covering more of the foot and lower leg than an ankle sock.

02

Shoe-collar protection

By rising above the ankle, a quarter sock guards the back of the heel and ankle from rubbing against the shoe collar, which is why it is popular for running, court sports, and trainers.

03

Cushioning and venting options

Impact padding under the heel and forefoot plus mesh venting can be mapped to your spec, so a quarter sock works for both performance and everyday ranges.

04

Ribbed stay-up cuff

A ribbed cuff tuned to your tension holds the quarter height in place without slipping down toward the ankle during activity.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a quarter sock?
A quarter sock sits a few inches above the ankle, between an ankle sock and a mid-calf crew. It clears most low shoes while protecting the back of the heel from the shoe collar, which makes it a favorite for sport.
How is it different from an ankle or a crew sock?
An ankle sock sits just above the ankle bone, a quarter sits a few inches higher on the lower leg, and a crew rises to mid-calf. We produce all three, so you can offer a full height range under one brand.
Can you build a cushioned quarter sock for sport?
Yes. We map padded zones under the heel and forefoot and add mesh venting to your spec, with moisture-wicking yarns for performance ranges. We confirm the construction at sampling.
Do you make custom quarter socks, or only stock styles?
Every quarter sock we run is custom to your brand. As a private-label and OEM manufacturer we knit your logo, brand colors, and cuff height into the sock from the artwork you supply. We do not offer design services, so you bring the artwork and we handle the make, from a 2,000-pair minimum.
